eMachines Athlon 64 notebook

Do they give you the 64-bit OS if and when it comes out? Other than that it's not a bad price for a laptop if your looking for one. Thanks for the info and I'm surprised there not more money.

I sent their support an email asking them about if it's the 64-bit OS on the 2 notebooks. We'll see if they answer.

Well surprisingly I got a response from their support section. They said that OS for the two notebooks are 32-bit and nothing about updating newer notebooks with the 64-bit OS.

Windows XP and Server 2003 64-bit are scheduled for the first half of 2004.

The current Windows XP 64-bit only works on Itanium 2 based workstations.

Not to worry, you can run current (and future) 32-bit applications on the 64-bit AMD chips without problems. In fact, they seem to be a tad faster. ;)

I just found a problem with bestbuys notebook. If you look at the specs and compare it with the same notebook from emachines you can see that their notebook has a dvd-rom only and the other is offering a DVD/CD-RW Combo Drive.

I bought the emachines M6809 from Best Buy and love it. It comes with a dual format DVD burner, 512MB PC2700 SODIMM, 80GB HD, Athlon 64 3200+ Mobile processor, ATI Radeon 9600 mobility Video. It runs windows XP Home, and will run future version of 64 bit Windows.

It's fast, it's stable, it's cool (temp). I did however order a new 7200rpm HD for increased performance, as well as a Kingston 1GB DIMM (Giving it 1.2GB PC2700).

It's a good buy. I aslo got $250 rebates from best buy.

Just went out and bought the emachines 3000 64bit model at my local BestBuy - they offered a $250 rebate, by the way - am typing this on the new laptop!! First one I have ever owned! So far, so good.
