egad! DVD on CDR?

forgive the newbie question, but is it possible to stick a cdr disc into a dvd burner and have it burn the disc in dvd format?

do you need to get dvd discs to use in the dvd writer? is not the plastic dvd disc the same as the plastic cdr disc?

thanks!

U need DVDR or DVDRW to burn in DVD format (video or Data)
U can use a DVD burner to burn to CDR or CDRW but it burns the same as an ordinary burner.

DVDR & CDR are completely different & are not compatable

U can convert DVD's (movies) to various movie files & burn to CDR/W as avi/mpeg/VCD/SVCD

Though you can burn a "mini-dvd" on CDR/W - but these only play on a handful of DVD players. I have an old Apex 700 with a firmware hack from a Sampo that will allow you to change setup modes to allow mini-dvd playback. A mini-dvd is a CD with the VIDEO_TS and AUDIO_TS folders and VOB/IFO DVD files as normal - you just have only about 15 minutes of video, hardly usable.
