Just tried a CD bud and it's working fine. Mind you I'm not using the default Freedb server.
Try updating your Freedb server list. F12, "Get active freedb server list," and try that little CD icon again. If it is still no go, keep trying a new server from the pulldown list until you get one. Also change your email from the default, it helps.
