DVDXCOPY and entire disc

Has anyone noticed a difference in quality of movies between checking the entire disc button on DVDXCOPY or not? When you do the entire disc, you get the menu, which you don't get if you do not check the entire disc button. But does this affect the quality of the movie, I.E. it has more data, therefore more compression?

Of course you are right in the thinking that there is more compression to be had when clicking the entire disc with DVDXCopy, but I just backed up Indiana Jones (box collection) and I tell you I have a hard time telling the original from the backup.

I think it comes down to the overall size of the movie (disc) in question, some movies I have down like Insomnia have turned out almost 100% to the original, where as movies like the Greenmile (being over 3hrs long) have had some pixalation.

Yup .... as a general rule the longer the film ... the more compression.... the lower the quality, but there is another factor to consider i.e. the original studio quality.

Top budget films like LOTR are generally much higher quality to begin with, than say a TV Series disk and this can have definite impact on the end product.
For example a disk with 5 x 30 min TV episodes, will generally be poor, compared to say a 2hr.30min - 3 hr film. Plus some films are produced at higher quality than others.

I have used DVDXcopy Platinum for backing up many of my movies and I must confess that the 'entire disk' option quality is excellent. However, lately, I have begun recording only the main movie as I don't want all the other options and ads and promo's and crap. Generally, this will reduce the amount of compression so the quality will be almost as good as the original. You may not have all the menu's but you can still skip to the chapter of your choice.

DVD Xcopy Xpress

Yeah I recently bought dvd xcopy gold but I would rather use dvd shrink on most of my dvd's.By using dvd shrink you dont get the warning message at the start of the movie. I use dvd xcopy xpress when I can't get anythink else to work.Don't get me wrong it is a good prog especially for newbies. That's what I started with.

editing the nag screens

i also use theses programs plus ifo edit to get rid of the nag screens like the 321 studios logo and the fbi warning screen...then i change a couple of parameters which only take about 1 minute to do and jump right to the movie..excellent..... :p

When using dvd xcopy express how do I delete the warning message at begining? That's the only down side to this prog so I stick with dvd shrink.I would like to use dvd xcopy express more than I do because I paid $100. for it.Also here lately it's been adding sub titles that I can't get rid of. It says there was no subtitle language defined. What's this crap. When I go select it there is nothing to choose from.

Thank you PhilEnfield!!!! You answered my question perfectly. I had backup up a TV series disc with the menu, and a regular movie without the menu. I got bad pixelation at times on the TV series disc, which is what prompted me to ask this question. Thanks!!
