DVDStripper is mangling DVDFab organization

I've noticed DVDStripper is mangling DVDFab "insert disc 2" VOBs which screws everything up.

I've used DVD Decrypter and DVDFab to prep a lot of my originals for DVDR and was hoping to use DVDStripper to remove nag screens, previews, and other "junk." Because of this, the DVDFabbed stuff has to be made into a temp image on a virtual drive. DVDStripper seems to be re-doing the whole thing which shouldn't happen. It should leave the DVDFab-created stuff alone so conversion back to a single disc is easy when dual-layer becomes available.

Right now I'm seeing VTS_01_5 is 214,364 KB in the FABbed version and a VTS_01_06 of 38 KB as the "swap disc" message.

After DVDStripper works the files over, VTS_01_05 is 214,854 KB, VTS_01_06 is gone and VTS_01_05 doesn't contain the missing video.

This really stinks. I've caught it after one backup was complete and burned but, obviously, the whole original will have to be redone. It also means existing 2-disc sets made with DVDFab can't be run through DVDStripper to get rid of unwanted junk.

sorry to hear your having issues but it's best you try asking DVDFAB what they do with the DVD structure when adding VOB's

I can accept some original DVD's having structural issues but I can't really accept issues from DVDFab DVD's as who's to say the structure is 100% valid? All this tells me is that the VOB is stuck on the end of the movie but is not properly referenced in the IFO so that's why it's missing in the end result as unreferenced material is dropped. One way to check is to load a DVDFab DVD into DVDShrink 3.0 Beta 5 and see of it picks up the VOB as a title or unreferenced material or something else. Let me know please as I would like to know if there's a simple solution. If you don't see it then see if it's at the end of the movie title

I have tested inserting VOB's months ago and I eventually added VOB's into the DVD manually. The thing is it takes a lot of manual modding and time to do it properly so the likes of DVDShrink and DVDStripper will pick it up as a valid entry. Automating it is another issue but it can be done ;)

your temporary solution is to use DVDStripper first and DVDFAB afterwards so it can alter the structure whichever way it does with the stripped DVD. If I had more time then I would be able to help you overcome your already made DVD's but sadly I don't but I may be able to work it out real quick with some feedback

I also can't see you joining the 2 DVD's from DVDFab back together after splitting them with DVDFab all that easily but with DVDStripper I think it may actually be possible in a future version (I'll look into that :D)

but then again, you can always use the orginal to create a new backup anyway when dual layer is around can't you ;)

p.s. if I get the time I will split a DVD and try to see what's going on

Yes, the original DVDs can be used again but then all the editing to remove junk is lost and has to be re-done. That's what I was hoping to avoid.

I usually use version 0.17.0 as the full commercial release tends to screw up on some discs. I'll have it split everything and it usually puts all the extras on disc 1, splitting the main movie. I've had to use the full release a few times. I did it with Disney's Beauty and the Beast. What a mess. Those special Disney discs have so much menuing that everything is all crazy.

FWIW, now that I'm becoming more familiar with DVDSplitter, I'll probably stick to it. I've got something like 30 discs ripped and Fabed to my drives right now. Was hoping to avoid re-ripping from the discs because it takes much longer, somewhere around 2x+ compared to making an ISO file, loading it into Alcohol, and "reripping" with DVDStripper."

The "problem" title I mentioned was Shaka Zulu disc 1. There are four entries in the VIDEO_TS; nag screen, studio promo, blank section, main movie link.

Maybe the best solution at this point is to IfoEdit the DVDFabbed files to run the blank section in place of the nag screen and uses DVDStripper only in the future...

I just thought of something. Would it be helpful for me to send you the IFOs for the Shaka Zulu 1 post-DVDFab?

Also, a correction:

VIDEO_TS.IFO
VMGM_PGCI_UT
LU_1 (English) PGC-Menu_2

That's the beast which needs to be removed or blanked. I don't really care how it happens.

PGC-Menu_3 is the studio promo

do you really need the insert Disc 2 displaying?. Why not just use DVDStripper to split the DVD and keep the menu's and all extras on both split DVD's minus all the crap you don't want? All you lose is the insert Disc 2 option

if you are looking at joining these DVD's at a later date then make an ISO of 1GB segments and put 4Gb on each DVD

can you not flash your DVD to read faster?. If not why not buy a basic DVDROM for faster ripping that's if you have the space on your PC?

I understand the link but don't have any clue how to point out where DVDStripper is failing without an actual example.

No, the change graphic isn't critical. I've noticed some already-Fabed stuff is reverting back to the boot menu where the change graphic would go if DVDStripper is used on it. What seems really odd is DVDStripper is adding length to the last content VOB which is does keep.

Have flashed the drive already. I'm running DVDIdle Pro. Wonder if that's interferring...

if I see a mention of a copyrighted DVD then I will not offer support to fix issues with them :(

as for the adding of length, again this is probably because you are using a non original DVD with modified content so again I cannot explain any issues you may get unless I try it for myself but I don't have the time at the minute

DVDIdle Pro could be slowing down you ripping speed if you have flashed it already
