Dvds wont play on my pc

I have over the last 24 hrs tried to play 4 various dvds on my pc dvd player each one of them has failed to play
my region codes are set correctly and i have tried numerous amounts of software [ie] Win dvd v4.0, Power Dvd , NvDvd, one of the titles has even loaded a pc friendly program on my pc Power dvd tells me the disc may be scratched or damaged but the disc is new and the others just wont recognise a disc is in my drive i am using a sony dvd+rw to play the discs and have other dvds that will play in it
In mad frustration i even tried to rip the movie to my hard drive to try to play in file mode but even the rip program i am using wont access the discs [clad + smart rip]
Is this a new type of protection on these discs to stop them being played in a pc or am i missing out on something

!!! please help thanks in advance !!!

Download, unzip, and run this program. If you have an ASPI layer it should show up.

If so, what is it? If not...follow Pokopiko's advice and download it. I recommend (as does Poko) version 4.60, as version 4.70 and 4.71 are problematic with some hardware.

Download ForceASPI v1.17 (it contains ver 4.60). You can get it at the main site. Just click on the "home" link on the bottom of this page... Downloads\CDR Tools\ASPI.

Give this a try and report back.

Ok dxkim i have downloaded the aspi checker and run it, it tells me the following information
WNASPI 32DLL v4.711(0)
WINASPI.DLL v4.60 (1021)
ASPI32SYS v4.711(0)
WOWPOST.EXE v4.60 (1021)
aspi is not properly installed one or more components have been replaced with older versions of the software
ok m8 now i will go to the download page and as youve instructed download force aspi v1.17
Once again thanks in advance i will post any new info here asap

after awhile of trying to install the aspi drivers from force aspi i went back to the download page and downloaded Compel aspi v1.17 i now have v4.60 in all the four boxes from before hopefully i will have solved my problem of playing dvds if not i shall return here to see if there is anything else i can do

IMHO, i mean that it's correct. Only WNASPI 32DLL and
ASPI32SYS are updated when you install new aspi 4.7xx. Older Aspicheck.exe (like that posted here) say "aspi is not properly installed one or more components have been replaced with older versions of the software", but newer Aspicheck (that comes with aspi 4.7xx pack) say that "aspi is properly installed and fully ...." ...
BTW, it's possible that older aspi solves your problem ... I hope so

So far so good friends i have managed to play some discs ok but some still will not the ones that wont play are hired ones from our famous dvd hirers blockbuster this is why in my first post i asked the question is there a new type of protection on these discs to stop them being played in a pc as it seems strange that they will not play but purchased ones will ?????? now there a food for thought
thanks again everyone for your help Scorch

DVD problems ?

I have read this thread and have to ask 1st what kind of DVD drive do you have ??? Is it region free or not??? Are all DVD's marked to same region ??? If NOT and your drive is hopefully RPC-1 = Region free drive, are you using DVD region killer ??? I myself use elby's free one (cause I have RPC-1 DVD drive), but I have also understood that the other from some "other" can be also hack this problem when you are using RPC-2 drives...

OK 2 MILENIUM
i have a region 2 drive and use region 2 discs although sometimes i use region 1 to do this i use dvd region killer v 2.0 which works ok the drives i have is an lg dvd rom and i also have a new sony dvd+rw/r 2.4x writer i have the same problem with both drives every thing seems ok since installing aspi 4.60 however i still have the same problems with hired dvd discs pokopiko has posted a few replys here and in his last he mentioned about windows xp this is the operating system i am using so are these aspi drivers ok for this system ??????
thanks once again
