Hi,

First of all, I'd like to say a big hello! to all of you, since this is my first post.

The problem i have is most annoying. My DVD driver seems to no longer accepting DVDs, though it can read CDs with no problems at all. Whenever i put a DVD, the drive TRY to read it; spins a bit and end up ejecting the dvd. There's no cracks on them and the are free of dust. This problem appeared only recently (been a couple of months i didnt use dvds though) and it occurs with all the dvds.

What is going on ?

Welcome to the forum, hope you like your stay.

Two things, upgrade your 105 firmware to latest 1.33 (has better rerading of DVD's) and also turn DMA ON.

Thank you guys for the quick response.

About turning DMA, yes i have tried to but it seems it is forced to PIO mode. For some reason, even though i checked the "DMA if available" box, it doesnt use DMA.
Do I have to upgrade atapi ? (if there is such a concept heh!!)

I will try uprading the firmware .... should be the solution. I will comeback if it doesn't work.
Can't wait re-watching The Two Towers :)

Thank you

P.S: Nice sig LTR :)

Well guys ...

I can't find a way to upgrade my dvd drive's firmware. The thing is that I am using XP sp1 home and my HD is formated in NTFS format. Therefore, I am not able to access my HD via true DOS (from a boot disk), which is required to run the .bat file.
I have tried to run it via XP but of course that didnt work.

I am sure there's a solution to this.

Thank you

copy the needed firmware files (Bat ect.) to your DOS boot floppy or to a 2nd floppy and change the floppies after booting;

Had a similar problem with my 3rd 105 of the year
Nothing I could do about it but send it back and they replaced it although mine spat out cdrs as well.

Yes I have thought about this solution but the problem there is that if the floppy or it's drive fails during the flashing process, i'll have to buy a new dvd drive.
I think i'll take the chance though ... no choice. Well I could install Win/9x to an other partition but when i installed XP, I did create only one NTFS partition for the whole HD ... yes that was stupid :)

Thank you

I think my problem is firmware related because i was indeed able to read dvd's in the past.

Good !!

The flashing process via floppy went smoothly ... I am now able to read my dvd's.

I'd like to thank you all for your quick help.
