DVDRW read as Audio CD

Hi,

Ive recently installed a liteon dvd+/-rw drive, and it seems to work ok, apart from every dvdr or dvdrw disk is shown as an audio cd within windows ( ME ) and i cant access any data on the disk.

the software ( recordnow ) allows me to write to the disk and says that the disk has been written ok, but all that shows up in windows explorer is track01 ( 44 bytes ) and nothing else, it also says that the capacity is 1.99gb.

Can anyone advise what i need to do ?

If it can see something, but can't work it out, it often ends up calling it "Audio CD".
Does it handle pressed DVDs ok? - if it's only on the ones you write, it might be a sign that it doesn't like the media - the Liteon is a better + drive than -

Sounds like a possible software conflict, particularly if you had another drive and writing software installed before.

What CD-R / DVD-R related software do you have installed?

You must use an odd clustersize, else you should have a 4GB problem- not 2GB.
The best way to avoid DVD coasters under ME is not recording DVD's at all- upgrade to 2000 or XP or 2003, or if you're short on money to Linux.

It's fine with pressed CD's, only does it with the dvdr & dvdrw discs. And yes i had a toshiba dvdrom / cdrw drive installed before.

Are there any drivers etc i can install ?

The writer software came with the drive ( its a version of recordnow ) - is there other software which will work ?

Is it ok with pressed DVDs - Video or the DVD from a DVD edition of a computer mag?

The software that came with it should be ok, but the previous software might be conflicting unless you uninstalled it and ran a clean tool for it (if available).

Is everything ok with written CD-R ?

I've done a windows update, and it now registers dvdr's and dvdrw's as compact discs ( with a 648mb capacity ! )

It's ok with dvd video disks ( i.e. pressed disks ) and ok with cdr's & cdrw's. The only problem is with the dvdr and dvdrw disks.

Help !!!

now it looks like the media aren't really compatible with your drive; try "Ritek G04" discs;

VIA Incompatabilities

Some ATAPI CD-ROM (CD-RW, DVD) drives which support Ultra ATA/33 mode work incorrectly when connected to the VIA BusMaster IDE-controller included in the VIA south bridge via a standard 40-thread cable. The problem lies in breaking of the integrity of data while reading discs or in a wrong recognition of the format when first applying to the disc. There are two ways to solve it. The simplest one is to prohibit usage of Ultra ATA for such storage device in the BIOS or in the diagnostic utility from the VIA IDE BusMaster Drivers' set. The second way can be used in those cases if you don't want to restrict drive's performance, then you have to connect it with a 80-thread Ultra ATA/66-cable (despite the fact that the device will work in Ultra ATA/33 mode!).
