By reliable, are you asking which is most compatible? Or which will last longer?
The answer to the first question appears to be DVD-R (though both are fairly compatible with most systems). The answer to the second question is that this is not a function of the format, but rather a function of the disc manufacturing and the dye. As to which brands are best, I don't think they've been around long enough to say with any certainty.
