is it possible to use dvd2svcd with vob-files that are already on my hdd?

Then just pinch one from another DVD where the movie has the SAME aspect ratio, Same type (PAL or NTSC) and same Audio channels. Rename to match the VOB files and ignor the movie length reported. It then should encode okay.

Else you could use the DVD2SVCD/TMPGEnc method, as DVD2AVI loads in VOB files and not the IFO file.
