dvd2svcd Large image please

ok, i know this is probably a silly question.
I am using dvd2svcd to make a vcd, but i want to make it 1 large file, so i can eventually put it on to a dvd with other movies i have,

probably a long way around things, but thats me

So how to i make one image file movie goes for115mins

so do i go to bitrate a change the movie to that long and put it down to 1 cd?

thanks in advance

Also I am wondering once the dvds have been converted to vcds, in the folder is it safe to delete all files except the bbMPEG_Muxed_File00.mpg, as i want to store them on dvds, once i have convertyed a couple movies

if u want a single file for the entire movie, just set the first cd's length to something beyond the length of the movie, such as 160 min, and set the size of the cd to something very large, such as 2gb.

yes, u only need to keep the bbMPEG_Muxed_File00.mpg.

If you're gonna put it on a DVD, why don't you reencode it to DVD?
(yes, you can do that with DVD2SVCD)
Choose [output file type] DVD, under tab [misc])
Then go to tab [bitrate] and you can enter any size you want in the [CD size box]. You're not limited to the predefined sizes....
You'll get a full DVD-compliant Mpeg you can use in any Authoring program.

For some programs you'll need the ES-streams (Video and Audio) so you might consider keeping the audio and video streams.

Would be best to try it with your first reencoded DVD file to see wich would be the easyest to keep though...

As Azimortal said, bur dont tick the 48 -> 44.1 box in the Audio section. Why waste the time to comvert the original dvd (48khz audio) to VCD (44.1khz audio) then back to 48khz when you author it to a DVDR.

I assume the purpose of all this is to get many hours onf movie onto a DVDR but at a lower VCD quality picture thats acceptable to you?

DVDR media is so darn cheap now its really not worth the trouble, just convert to DVDR in the first place and keep to better quality that dvd2svd with CCE can give.

Once again, thankyou for your help.
Yes the purpose of this exercise is to get many hours out of a dvd, just something i am trying.
I realize that dvds are cheap now, but i also dont use all the chapters and extras so i just wanted the movies all together on 1 dvd if possible.

I do realize also that the dvd2svcd will make a dvd, but i am doing vcd at the moment,
thanks again

Don't understand why you make it VCD if you're gonna burn it on DVD....
First of all you lose the possibility to keep subtitles (except when you burn them in the movie itself, wich i won't recomend), second, you'l have to use a program that can put VCD on DVD (wich probably would be DVDLab).

Looks to me you're trying to do it the hard way.....espacially when you state you want just the single MPG. Using DVD2DVD conversion give's you much more options to create a nice multi-movie DVD.

Or are you recoding to SKVCD?

Re-encoding to just vcd, no subtitles, no extras
i am using Ulead DVD MovieFactory 2, to put the movies to 1 dvd, which means i should get about 3 movies to 1 dvd.

I dont see the need to use a full dvd to a movie when the dvd isnt full, call me cheap, but where i live the dvds arent cheap anyway, $5.00 per dvd, so i dont want to waste them.

Plus what is the difference between, dvd2svcd and dvd2dvd,
doesnt sound like i get more than 1 movie onto a dvd.

If you want 3 movies on 1 DVD, all with aprox the same quality, you do the following:

movie1 = 90 minutes
movie2 = 101 minutes
movie3 = 95 minutes

Total DVD will be: 90+101+95 = 286 minutes.
So you'll have to put 286 minutes on 4.3GB=4400MB (real ones)
Let's keep 100MB for overhead and Menu, wich leaves 4300MB to distribute.

Movie1 = (4300 / 286) * 90 = 1353MB
Movie2 = (4300 / 286) * 101 = 1518 MB
Movie3 = (4300 / 286) * 95 = 1428 MB

These values you'll fill in for the CD-size in DVD2SVCD, and you'll end up with 3 movie-files wich will fit on 1 DVD, with aprox. the same bitrate's and quality.

Create a nice selectionmenu (with scene-selection if you want) with TMPGenc-DVDauthor, DVDLab, Scenarist or DVDMeastro and you're ready to steel the show....

Does that sound like you will only get 1 movie on a DVD?
BTW: mine are €1.60 a piece, DVD+R Arita 2.4x used on Nec1300A ;)

DVD specs as I understand it support VCD res MPEG1, so you can have subtitles, multiple audio streams, chapters, menus and anything else that DVD offers. As said though, make sure that you keep the audio 48KHz.

Whilst you are experimenting you might want to try using half res MPEG2. Also playing around with the standard VCD bitrate and doing a two pass VBR encode.

Thanks for the help, replies

jaapf so where do i get this program to try, i cant find it anywhere
The links i tried are dead links

ok, thanks

sure does take longer converting it to dvd format than vcd though

so i have to wait and see the outcome to decide if i will continue using it that way

but thanks again

Using TMPGEnc to convert to DVD is quite slow, but if you use CCE, then its way way quicker than any VCD conversion. Its all in the Tutorial.

Here i am again, copied movie with svcd2dvd, using the dvd.ini
followed tutorial but used tempengc(as i had already been converting when i received chickenmans reply to use CCE) the outcome was good but too big.
Over 4Gb, which means only 1 movie to Dvd. So thats not what i was after

Thanks anyway

Well an update i think i finally got this worked out!

I have converted to vcd format,
programs i used

-svcd2dvd

Main Concept Encoder Trialware

TMPGEnc DVD Author Trial Ware

Intervideo DVD Copy Trial Ware

Now i have made a backup of 4 movies per dvd, and the quality is still good.
It has taken me a week to work this one out, so i be pleased if it all keeps working now

thanks to all who tried to help
dolphin :D
