DVD2SVCD Freezing With Internal DVD2AVI Programme

Now I have looked everywhere for this problem, but it doesn't look like anybody else has had it at this stage of the conversion. I ripped the DVD with smartripper, which goes okay. I load the IFO into DVD2SVCD and follow Chickenman's excellent tutorial. It gets as far as checking the VOBs and starting up DVD2AVI in the log window, and then THAT'S IT!! Nothing but a freezing programme. It just says 'not responding.' I checked my CPU usage whilst using DVD2SVCD and it shoots right up to 100% when it gets to the DVD2AVI point. I have also tried TMPGE and CCE but with the same results. I even left it over night but it was still frozen in the morning.

The strange thing is, I loaded up the DVD2AVI programme as stand alone, and tried it there and it worked!!? WTF!? I am completely baffled. Do you think it's something to do with AVISynth or something?
When the IFO had been loaded up, I also tried removing the first VOB if it contained 0kb, as someone suggested, but it still does the same?

My only option if this can't be remedied is to do the whole thing manually, but seeing as though I am a newbie at all of this, will someone tell me the all processes, and which order they are executed, that DVD2SVCD goes through to make a full S/VCD, please?

If you've read this far, thanq for your patience. If you haven't, then I don't blame you! :)

What version of DVD2SVCD are you running ? If its not 1.3.1 Build 2 then please update.

When you load in the IFO file into DVD2SVCD, click on the [..] small button and report exactly what VOB files have been loaded in. Also, what mode of DVD Decrypter (File or IFO) did you use to rip the original DVD to your HD and was Stream Processing turned on or off?

Hi and thanq Chickenman for replying so quick.
I used smartripper v2.41 to rip to my harddrive. I have 'enable stream proocessing' ticked, but on another tutorial it said to untick the 'direct stream copy' and choose 'demux to extra file' instead. Although I am almost positive I have done this with the original setting of 'direct stream copy' previously with the same result, do you this is where it may be going wrong?

The VOBs that I have are :
vts_03_1.VOB
vts_03_2.VOB
vts_03_3.VOB
vts_03_4.VOB
vts_03_5.VOB
vts_03_6.VOB

Many thanqs again mate. :)

Oh, and I am using version 1.2.1 build 3 of DVD2SVCD, and not v1.3.1 build 2 as you have mentioned. I cannot find that version anywhere so I am hoping it was just a slip of the keyboard :)

Well looks like you ripped the files okay and yes I did get the dvd2svcd version mixed, it was very late :D You have the latest, but I would suggest a re-install.

Also can you also try ripping the movie in IFO mode with DVD Decrypter.

Basically if DVD2AVI cant load in or process the files correctly then there is a problem with the VOB files.

Well, I went back and tried to use DVD2AVI on its own again, the VOBs were recognised and loaded up as normal but now it won't even resize it's own screen and play the VOBs as it's usually done (and should do) as in previous attempts. It just sits there as does nothing with a black screen, so when I hit F5 to see the attributes of the loaded VOBs, it says nothing in the grey statistics box for Video or Audio anymore, except that it counts from 1 to 25 very quickly in the VOB CELL ID, and that's it. Methinks somethings gone completely diconknockerated.

So, as a last resort I tried another of your tuts and used flask. Now this had at least read the VOBs correctly before but now this is saying it can't read the files now? It seems the more I try and play with things to get it done, the worse it gets. I reckon I've installed too much DVD software stuff on my system just trying to get a decent setup as regards this and now the OS is totally confused with files all over the place. I think a reinstall of the OS will do the trick as I've already reinstalled DVD2SVCD many times now.

One last bend of your ear please mate, although I realise this is slightly off topic for this forum section? I had previously done a rip of a DVD succesfully and I converted it to VCD with the MainConcept MPEG programme. I have been left with a really good copy of the film and I have copied it to a CD. The only thing is, I want it auto boot like a normal DVD would without me having to go into the the DVD player's menu and choosing the file manually. So, I decided I would need to author it so I used Nero and chose VCD as the template. It now auto boots but the quality seems to have worsened. Is this possible?

Many, many thanqs again

Sounds like Nero has re-encoded the mpg file for you then :(

Simplest solution is to use VCDEasy to authgor/burn your mpg files as it has a switch to make it autoplay.
