DVD2SVCD/CCE size of ntsc pulldown

Hey guys...i have just reencoded/converted a 3hr movie which it now appears was 23.976fps. Obviously the authoring progs don't accept this (DVD Maestro). DVD2SVCD has performed the pulldown ntsc coversion to 29.97fps....but this file is considerably smaller than the first .mpv, therefore i'm not using up the whole dvd-r. does the converted .mpv always end up being smaller or has there been a **** up somewhere in the process?

Thxs

Scrap that!!! i just checked the vob file from the original ripped dvd in DVD2AVI (F5) and it states the files as 29.97fps 100% ntsc and as interlaced (although it is a anomorphic film) i must have selected force as on or auto in dvd2svcd (in the dvd2avi tab) let me re-encode

Yep, that can do it. Just for the record, the 23.976 fps *.mpv file and the Pulldown.mpv file should be identical lengths.

Thxs m8! ;) I did a re-encode last night...and because i was sleeping, made it a 3 pass. Turned off force film and only ticked the dvd compliant box in advanced settings as it was interlaced. Anyway it was all done this morning and looked ok...i'll burn it and check when i get back from work.

ps. Chickenman just a quick question about your setup...i remember you had the asus nforce2 board with a xp2600. Have you now upgraded to the xp3200? and has it made a big difference with reencoding times?..how much ram are you running? :)

Yep, your right, I recently updated my ASUS A7N8X-Deluxe m/b to an A7N8X-E Deluxe and went from my 2600 to 3200. Main purpose was to decrease my encoding time, which it did. What would take 2hr 30 min before is now 2hr. Using DVD ReBuilder I now encode in real time, ie. a 2hr movie takes 2hr to encode and author, ready to burn. Thats using CCE 2.50, the 2.66 and 2.67 is a lot slower.

I've run with 1 gig of DDR400 ram for quite some time now. I run it in Single Mode as CCE 2.3 crashes to many times in Dual mode. But 2.66 runs fine, but is so darn slow, you gian nothing. Maybe 2.67 with dual mode could be a bit faster than 2.5 with single mode. Must try that one day when I've nothing better to do :D
