Hi

I`m about to burst

I`m using DVDXCopy Platinum v3.2.1

I decided to try this software because

I fell for all the hype , & many folks

swear it works

I rip a 7.63 Gig Dvd to my drive

which results in a 4.69 Gig files

But when I insert blank DvD as

instructed , the write immediately

fails , & I`m directed to see the log

wherein I find no helpful info

I`m using memorex 4.70 Gig Dvds

I`ve tampered with compression

settings , & choose all title sets

I get same problem evertime

Can anyone direct me to a successful

burn . It must be me because

everyone else raves on this software

I tried DvD decrypter (Nice :)-)

but failed using ifoEdit :(

Cheers

Some more problems to add

@ least I`m not alone :)-

A couple more things I cant do / access in platinum

is in settings . 1. I cant force DvD rom booktype

as this option is always ghosted , & 2. I cant select

the use compression option either , as it`s always ghosted out

& 3. I cant choose to browse files on my hard drive in that option

either as it`s always ghosted .

I thought I`d give the simple mode a try

with x-press . I chose full screen mode

(as original is full screen) & entire DvD to copy

But it continually crashes @ around 86-90 + %

or so . It just blinks off & no error messages , but I`m left with

just over 5 gigs of it`s files on my hard drive

Most important for me is to get platinum working & be able

to get all info on 1 disc . I`m beginning to think this may be

too good to be true , but I seen this software on tech tv

before I got it , so maybe the problem is in what I`m doing / not doing

Please help

Go figure, I have used DVD Xcopy Platinum v3.2.1 for the past 3 months without a hitch. I did'nt like the software at first because of the tedious product activation but since installing it has performed faultlessly.
My system is quite old by modern standards: P3 866/512mb ram/133 fsb/160gig of storage so maybe the problem is in your file system. One thought comes to mind. What file system do you have on your HDD? NTFS or Fat32? Some programs cannot cope with fat32 because of its 4gig file size restriction. Another suggestion would be to seek more specific help at 321 studios official website at afterdawn.com

Thanks I never thought of that file system thing , but

I did manage to make 2 discs though last night

although I still cant check those ghosted windows

I spoke of , thus I cant use compression & x-press crashes @ near 90% done

so it split into 2 dvds , & I couldnt figure how to match them up

but I still got the whole DvD . Just a little odd .

Any Ideas on the ghosted options I spoke of , & x-press crashing

& if ya still think file system change may help , because I did manage

to burn 1 DvD to 2 DvD`s .

Cheers :)-

rosecloud ,
First up, I do not profess to being an expert in any area of computing so I'm really commenting from reading posts on different forums and a fair amount of experience with different problems I've experienced with computing over 25 years. There are so many thing that can be causing this behaviour. My advice would be to post all of your system specs and the configuration so experts here can give you a more informed opinion. Failing that, I would be inclined to point you in the direction of the official 321 Studios website at this link here.

Yes you are correct, many things can cause this behaviour. ;) It is usually a hardware/software driver issue.

Most common troublemakers are:packet writing software,Virtual drives,Via 4in1 drivers,Nvidia IDE drivers.Using too many burning software programs will eventually cause some kind of conflict.Removing software usually leaves some problem drivers behind. The only real way to know if it is a software conflict is to start out with a clean O/S install.

DvdXcopy either just seems to work for people,or cause headaches.

People would be better advised to save some money and use Dvdshrink. Here is a recent tutorial.

http://www.mrbass.org/dvdshrink/

Oh...and remember to shutdown antivirus, and screensavers during the process. These can also cause problems with some software.

Successful instructions found

I know how you feel I spent the weekend making coaster after coaster. Finally I found what works and it is simple.

Try this link http://dvdrbase.com/forumdisplay.php?f=117 and click on The Totally FREE & Easy DVD Backup Guide

Follow exactly what it says

For step 3 the burn if you have it use Nero

Create a new DVD-Rom UDF/ISO (The DVD has to be in UDF to read in a DVD player)
You also must create a Audio_ts folder and leave it empty (this is for the fussy DVD players) and a Video_ts folder.

Put all of your compressed files eg:
video ts bup
video ts ifo
vts_01_0.bup
vts_01_0.ifo
vts_01_1
" _2
"
"
"vts_01_5

into your video_ts folder and drag and drop both folders under your new DVD-Rom UDF/ISO on the left.

Burn from here and it should play but if it does not don't think there is somethig wrong with your computer just try again and look at a different set of instructions they may suit you better. There will be a set that you will be successful with.

Ok I totally nuked my drive & reinstalled windows xp pro

& only installed DvDxcopy

Yet problems continue as follows

1. What I really want to do is back up a full DvD

to 2 discs , full intact . I`ve had some (confused)

success , so I believe I`m just missing something .

I just dont understand that whole splitting window

Firstly when I go to this window , with Ie ; My Led

Zeppelin Dvd I`m backing up , title set 7 is automatically

set to disc 2 & I cant move it . Title set 7 is the largest

portion of Dvd @ 6.47 gigs . So I`m guessing the option

split title set at , (Ie : cel 1 to 14 ) , refers to

where to split (The automatically chosen for me ?) title

set 7 . If so , I`m further confused , because in select

title set window , in title set 7 , what I believe are cels ,

I only see #`s 7 - 11 , yet in split window I see #`s 7 - 14 .

( & I cant access split chapter at, beg or middle , middle is

auto chose for me ) .

As you muck about in split window , you see disc file size changing

& I always keep under 4.35 Gigs per disc . I click next/write & all

seems well , until I go to burn to DvD , I`m told file is too large

for a DvD, & in save folder I dont see a split file , I see the

entire 7 Gig plus file , & to further frustrate , I totally removed

everything from my drive , nuked my drive & reinstalled only win-xp-pro

& DvD x copy platinum , & now I get message cant write archive.txt

when I hit write/next from split window

I fumbled about & made what I call a somewhat successful burn ,

I just ripped & compressed title set 7 to 1 DvD , & did the rest to another DvD

But the problem is a logical flow to the DvD . You can imagine the mess ,

but quality is still there . No logical flow to the movie atall . But man this proggie

does rip in high quality :)-

2. Simple mode , express always crashes/blinks off @ around 90- 99 % , with no

explanation , but most of movie is on the drive .

System specs

win-xp pro-sp1a

AMD 2600+

ATI 9800 pro -128 mem video card

700+ DDR mb memory

LG DvD burner

Hope I haven`t overloaded you with long windedness , I wanted to be sure I wrote

I could to help

Cheers :)-

I gave up on that

Well I gave up on dvDx copy platinum

(If you seen my other posts you already

know the headaches that gave me &

IFO edit wouldnt work either) .

& tried a Dvd decrypter , Dvd2one

& copy DvD combo

I want the entire movie intact on 1 disc

(as why I tried DvDx copy platinum till my head hurt) .

& Tutorials all say this is possible.

All goes smooth until copy2DvD

goes to burn the DvD

There i`m told the file is over 4.37

Gigs (it`s 4.47) , & wont fit on disc

which is 4.7 gig memorex DVD-R

Do I want to continue burning

& even if I set copy dvd to required size

& continue anyhow , another error message

pops up saying I need @ least 4.48 gigs of disc space

& it wont fit on my media (memorex DVD-R , 4.7 gigs

in size) .

I`m banging my head on the monitor by now . What gives

here .

Please give some much needed & appreciated advice

DVD X Copy

I too ran into the same problems that you are experiencing. I tried the 321 Studios online help, but I think once they got to a certain point they didn't know the fix either. I actually figured it out on my own, I was trying to copy a couple of movies and was running into problems where it would read the entire movie, start the burn, and 30 seconds or so into the burn, would go into 'Finallizing disc" mode, then stop and go no further. What I discovered was that it makes a huge difference what brand of blank DVD you are using. I have some that copied, but would only playback on the burner itself, I was down to one blank left, which happened to be the disc that came with the burner, and it worked perfectly. I read somewhere recently (can't remember where) that even between companies, the media has differences. Try using a different brand of blank. Imation's were the ones that wouldn't work for me, but TDK's and Sony's seem to work perfect. Just my two cents...
