DVD write speed issue

I have a Sony DVD burner (dru 510a) that has been working fine up until this week. It has a max write rate of 4x which it was doing. Now all of a sudden it only writes at 2x. I am running windows xp. I have defraged the hard drive completely. I am and have been using Ritek silver matte 4x disks.

I also bought a 5pack of Sony dvd disks in case the Ritek was the problem but I can still get only 2x.

I have also gone to the and checked the IDE ATI and it is on
Device Type: Auto detect
Transfer Mode: DMA if available under Device ) and Device 1.

What is my problem and are there any options I have to get my write speed back to 4x?

Thank You in Advance

I have a sony burner (500a) & from experience can say that it writes @ 2 speed & 4 speed using exactly the same media from the same spool.Try updating the firmware
7 perhaps trying the burner as master (if u have it as slave)
