DVD to VCD\SVCD

hey ppl, i am a newbie to this and i wonder how can i transform a DVD movie to VCD or SVCD? I tried some of the programs on this site, but i always get error messages...
Please help me to find a progam simple enough for newbies, that don't understand to much about frame rates and stuff like this. Maybe some one can help me out with a HowTo manual or a site that explains this stuff...

Use chickenmans tutorials, they are straightforward and easy to follow.

Not something I do, so I cant really comment.
I have seen some superb dvd-divx conversions by shadoe phantom so maybe he could help when he is next visiting.
Others may have good knowledge too.
