Hi guys-
Thanks for the quick replies. I´ve tried some of the suggestions below, and here´s what I found:
"...i think i read something regarding a "record button" in a Software DVD Player..."
-I use PowerDVD, and it only has a "snapshot" feature. Any idea which package does this? That would probably be the fastest way...
"You could select the vobs your require in DVD2AVI , then save directly using appropriate codec just the frames you want using the frame sliders"
-It worked, but only after DVD2AVi crashed on me twice. I used uncompressed AVI and it was fast and easy to do. Now I can just import this into After Effects or whatever and export the format I want.
"Or do similar in DVD2AVI, but save as a project and then load up into TMPGEnc to have more control over the output and quality."
-This also worked, but took about twice as much time as the previous method.
"Or load up the vob directly into TMPGEnc and select the frames to convert"
-This didn´t work. How do you load VOB´s in TMPGEnc? It doesn´t seem to accept that format....
"Or load up the vob directly into Womble MPEG Editor..."
-This created an ".wme" file, which I couldn´t read in any software but Windows Media Player. I really liked the trimming features in this package: you can set in- and out- points in your input video, then you can trim off the excess material and just see the portion you want. That´s really great for setting exact frame numbers (which is what I need). It´s a cool and fast software, but how do I get it to save out another format?
"I would take the D2V and frameserve it to VirtualDub/VirtualDubMod and then save out an image sequence"
Virtual Dub didn´t work, but VirtualDubMod did- and well. It takes some seconds to import the VOB, after that you can export an image sequence directly. That´s *very* cool. How do I get it to trim off excess material (like in Womble)?
In general it seems that image sequence export is not a difficult thing to implement, it´s just that most programmers or producers of these ripping softwares don´t include this feature.
So, thanks for the tips, guys. If you have anything else to add, let me know!
cheers-
David
