DVD-RW fine, problems with DVD-R

I've been using Intervideo DVD Copy 2 successfully on my main pc (Pioneer 107).

I've not got a second PC with a Sony DW-U18A (which other forums say is actually a LiteOn 812S??) and am having problems burning a movie. It works fine on a DVD-RW (which I used to test that all was ok) but when burned to DVD-R the copying finishes without errors but the disk is unreadable (tried both DVD durners & 2 DVD players).

Tried two types of DVD-R (both Ritek dye), 3 coasters so far could do with some help before I've got a pile of them!!

Any suggestions?

I've got a Lite-On 812S which is burning Ritek G04 dvd-r fine.

I believe there may be problems with the Ritek G05 media, as ritek are trying to stop people burning the G04 at x8.

The writer came bundled with Sonic MyDVD ( aka RecordNowMax )

I haven't touched the firmware on it as yet, what writing software are you using ?

I'm using Intervideo DVD Copy 2 as it seems to be the easiest s/w for burning movies.

I would try another software, as I said RecordNow Max works fine with the Lite-On, and it's a good package anyway.

I don't know anything about Intervideo DVD Copy, does ot actually shrink a dvd9 ala DVD Shrink etc?

If so you may want to give dvd-rb a go.

Intervideo DVD Copy 2

I use DVD Decryptor to rip and DVD Copy 2 to burn. Yes it shrinks to 1 DVD and you can choose which part you want included (e.g. remove foreign audio, subtitles, studio into, copyright notices etc.).

I chose it because of the tutorial on this site as it's the easiest in my opinion although sometimes the quality isn't always fabulous if you copy the entire disc (although I'm not sure you can reduce size of anything by 50% without quality loss).

I'll try to get hold of an evaluation copy of RecordNow Max to see if I have success.

Thanks.
