DVD-Rom Won't play svcd/vcd?

I have a Toshiba DVD-ROM SD-M1202 Drive. It plays DVDs fine and rips them also. Since my computer processer is only a 500mhz I can't convert avi or anything to svcd. However i used Nero Burning Rom to burn and svcd, and a vcd of the same movie clip. I put them in to my Rom and open WinDVD Plat. The program reconizes that one is vcd and one is vcd however i hit play and I don't see the movie nor do I hear the sound. What am I doing wrong? Incase it matters My media is Maxell CD-R 700MB 4x to 48x speed. My CD Burner is a TDK CDRW121032.

Nero is not very good for burning SVCD's. The best for both VCD & SVCD is to use VCDEasy. Have a read of the DVD to SVCD or DVD to VCD Tutes on how to use VCDEasy.

Also playback problems can be associated with burning at 2 high a burn speed, keep to 1/2 the max burn speed of your burner and never over 16x will always help. Also the actual media type, try different brands and type.

thanx Chicken Man. I haven't ever use vcd easy to burn them. I have all of your tutoriols on floppy so I'll check it out there. :)

I thought you could burn the DivX files with VCD easy :( With that tutoral i have to convert the file and with my 500mhz processer it won't do it over nite or after 4:00 pm (Central)

To get an AVI to play on a DVD Player, you need to convert to VCD or SVCD for 99.999% of all DVD players to actually play them (assuming it can play VCD/SVCD in the first place).

If encoding takes to long on your P500, then cut the AVI in 1/2 and emcode each half separately. A normal 90min AVI would need to be put to 2 CDR's as a (S)VCD anyway.

thats just it, the file movie is cut in half 700mb a piece unless i could cut the 700mb files inhalf encode then rejoin them? With out messing up the quality?

if yer still having problems try a different freeware player i have an ati graphics card that has a dvd player the dvd player will not play SVCD or VCD files but it also comes with a VCD player that does play them !? so maby thats an option :)

I have a later model toshiba a 1502 :)
