DVD Ripping help please

hi guys

I have a dvd cd with 40 video tracks. The dvd is larger than 4.7gb.
I was wondering if there is a way using smartripper or any other software to ripp only selected tracks instead of the whole dvd and then burn straight onto a blank, saving time encoding, resizing etc etc.

thanks

dave

TMPGEnc DVD Author will allow you to import the VOBs and then select only the chapters that you want. It will master up a new VIDEO_TS directory for you, complete with chapter marks.

As aybesea said, or just use SmartRipper to rip by Chapter (each clip/song is always in its own chapter as far as I have seen), just do one at a time but demux the Video & Audio stream and each to its own folder. Then re-author in Maestro, DVDLab or TMPGenc DVD Author. No encoding needed, done this many times.

hi chickenman

i have tried that and when i try burning it using nero, it says some files are missing. i only have the vob files and one ifo file. its says other non video files are missing in order to make a dvd?

please help

dave

DVD Decrypter is just a ripping program, it is not an authoring program.. If you rip only the Chapters/songs that you need, then you need to run TMPGEnc DVD Author, load in the VOB files only then hit the BEGIN OUTPUT button. Then the folders that it produces, drag into Nero burning in UDF/ISO mode.

hi chickenman

thanks for your help mate.
I have tried TMPG DVd Author, it only lets me open one Vob file, i have about 5 files. i used funtion open file to open the vob file. Only one file is opened and when i try adding another file it says ' this is an illegal video file for dvd standard, you can only use mpeg1 video and mpeg2 video. All the files do open but individually which is no use .

please advice further :)

I personally would use Maestro to do the authoring but it accepts demultiplexed video and audio files only. You can add up to 99 movie clips (if the DVD is big enough). When you extract the Chapters off the DVD, select Stream Processing then selct only the Vieo & Audio streams you want and for each also tick the Demux option. You then end up with a *.m2v video file and *.ac3 or *.wav or what ever the audio form is. Dont select DTS audio though. See the DVD to DVDR Tute on how to handle Maestro.

thanks chicken man ur the expert, i will that out later today. Just wanted to make sure that i am doing this right? i have checked ur tutorial. i have around 5 video files in my dvd, i want to keep the chapters too. does that mean i would have to write each file seperately on the hard drive using dvddecrypter and use chapterextractor to keep the chapter? im i correct in doing that?

Do you have guide where the movie is more than 4.7 and you want to keep everything, chapters, menus etc etc and burn it in one 4.7 size dvd?

finally which re encoding software would you recommend to convert avi files to mpeg for vcd/dvd. nero seems really slow.

Yep, if there are chaptersfor each, then ChaperXtractor can extract them from th IFO file.

Ig you want a whole dvd9 dvd, menu, chapters, extras, etc then I would suggest Instant Copy 7 to do that. I can do it all manually by extracting the menus off the dvd but I have no Tutorial for that and would be very difficult to write as every darn dvd is different just about.

AVI to VCD or to DVD, just read the Tutorials I have written for each.

i did try instant copy 7 but after analising it and what have u it said unable to fit onto a 4.7 disk. It did everything automatically and i didnt had to do anything. Is there a manual way to do it? or a way to force it to fit onto a 4.7gb
