DVD-RAM disk = DVD-RW?

Heya everyone, I recently replaced an old DVD-RAM drive with a Lite-On 8x DVD Burner, but I was wondering about the now seemingly useless DVD-RAM disk I have. If I remove the disk from the cartridge, is it just a normal DVD-RW?

Take care,
Rob

Short answer - NO

DVD-RAM is DVD-RAM - a different (and many say FAR better) format for rewrite, but not widely supported.
Uncasing it makes no difference, if another drive doesn't support DVD-RAM, that's it - not even sure if another drive could even read it?

There are some laptop drives that would use uncased DVD-RAM - the Panasonic so-called super-drive, but I don't call 2x on DVD-R, 2x on DVD-RAM, 1x on DVD-RW particularly super... a friend just got a laptop with one, and I was horrified at that specification.
