DVD+R won't play

Hi all
I have been using a Pioneer 106 for some time now and have only ever used -R disks to back-up movies but today I tried some +R disks and I cant get them to play in my Toshiba DVD or my Naiko DVD players. They will work on my pc with Power DVD.
Is this a compatibility problem with my players and can it be overcome?

No dvd players are created equal.If the same backups play when using dvd-r,it is most likely a problem with the players and dvd+r media.It could also be the brand of dvd+r media (less likely). ;)

You found one of the biggest problems with DVD+R media Compatibility!!!! Some older dvd player can't play DVD+R. I was looking and I couldn't find it I think cdrinfo did and article on this. But your problem does have a fix buy a new dvd player. :D Or better yet just stick with DVD-R thats what I do. :D :cool:

I have just used a DVD+RW and it will work in the players that the DVD+R won't play on, both disks are TDK. Strange

Try using the + media recommended at the Pioneer website. ;)

The site I use to check the dvd players media compatability is down right now.It covers most of the players,and their abilities.

I have the same problems with the TDK DVD+R and I have used bulpak 4xspeed with the same problems. I was using the HP200i writer - I have now upgraded to the HP 300c writer - does anyone know which DVD+R media I can use with this writer. I am using nero.

Hi Dil
I found that sticking to DVD-R worked in almost all players, it seems that a lot of the older players dont like DVD+R.

I have a similar problem...I followed the excellent tutoirals and can now successfully copy DVDs on my HP 300 +R/RW writer....copies using +RW discs can be played on my DVD player but when I copy to +R, it only works on my PC.

I guess I need to purchase a new (+R compatible) DVD player???

thanks

yes, if +R compatibility is not mentioned in the DVD player's manual or in firmware release history, then playing back from +R media is impossible;

so please take a look at your DVD fabricator's homepage and check for a firmware upgrade before buying a new device;

the strange thing is, when I backed up a copy of the matrix:reloaded onto +r disc it DID play on my dvd...but all others have not...they will only play on a +RW

anyway, I'll try to locate the firmware history (the model is conia m520 - it seems to be only sold in Australia and I can't locate the manufacturer's website)
