dvd-r vs. dvd+r

my question is:

is it possible to burn dvd movies to dvd-r and playback on a dvd player (providing the player is compatible)?

reason i ask this is i bought some dvd-r's and the sofware i was using said it was 'illegal disc' . i used a different application and it said basically the same thing. i took them back and bought a couple of dvd+r's and it worked no problem...

the only thing i changed was upgraded the firmware on my dvd burner between using the dvd-r and dvd+r. id prefer to use a 'knowledge base' before experimenting...

thanks for any help

Welcome to the forum, hope you enjoy your stay.

As C_D said, what is the make and model of your DVD Burner? Not all do both + or - DVDR's, some do one or the other only.

DVD-Rs are legal

To (ahem...) answer your question: DVD-Rs are legal, just like DVD+Rs and DVD-RAM formats. I don't know why your program or burner won't accept them. I'm using TMPGEnd DVD Author (a gift from DVD heaven...) and a Plextor 708-A plus or minus burner, which also has been "fool" proof. Russell kctexan@comcast.net
