DVD-R or DVD+R

I just got a new Pioneer 106 drive and want to know what type of media do I want. I know -R plays on some DVD players and +R plays on others, but which one is the "most compatible"? I don't want to spend a bunch of money on blank discs that will work on just a couple players. Also, does anyone have some recomendations of brands to buy or more importantly, brands to avoid? Thanks.

What make/model of standalone DVD player do you have? As far as media, IMHO you can't go wrong with Ritek's.

Welcome. If you look around the forum you will see this has been talked about a lot.:) Basically DVD-r are the most compatible, but there is a fix for this buy all new dvd player.:D You could start with this post: DVD+R won't play. Enjoy the forum.

**BUT** It can depend on the drive - some writers produce a burn unacceptable to some players, when other drives make a satisfactory one.

These results seem to say one thing - the Dual (probably from companies with the major expertise in -R) tend to produce better resulkts on -R, while the +R ONLY drives produce far better results on +R than the dual ones do!
