DVD+R Media Problem?

Question for the experts:

I recently purchased a liteon ldw-851s and a pack of imation +R DVDs. I'm trying to back up my PS2 games and no matter what I try these discs seem to be crap. I've tried various programs (Alochol, CloneDVD, Sonic [came with the burner], etc...) to no avail. Then I think to myself, hey this burner came with some discs why not try one of those. So I throw in the liteon dvd-r disk (yes, I realize it was a - not a +) and bingo works perfect. So my question is really two fold. First, has anyone else had problems with imation +r's? Do you think that I am doing something wrong with the +r's? Thanks in advance for your help!

Update

Further testing, and a bit more money has shown me that I cannot burn +r's at all. I went out after looking in my manual for media that is supported specifically by my burner and found that both + and - of Maxell's were listed. So, I purchased some of each. The +r's fail with flying colors, the -r's work great. And I mean great enough you would not know you were playing a backup! So, I think I'll have to look around for more information on my burner and see if others experience the same problems. It is getting $$$ to keep throwing away DVD+R's!! Any suggestions or information anyone has would be great.

Perhaps your PS2 wont read +R media? Older versions are known not to read +R media. Have a look at the console backup section at this forum I remember there being something there about that. You could try back a movie up on +R and see if it works. As for Ritek media, most disc retailers will tell you if it's ritek dye as it's the best. Have a look at the sponsor of this site xsct or try blankdiscshop.co.uk. Decent prices and a great service.

Well I thought that at first to, so...I had a friend use some of my imation disc's and he was able to backup one of his own games. Long story short, it was a +r and it played in his PS2 as well as mine. So my PS2 will play +r media apparently. I plan to have him bring over a couple more of his games that he has burned onto +r media tonight and see what happens. I have not checked the version of my PS2 yet, I will do that tonight, good call on that one.
