Hi,

I want to buy a DVD recorder, but I don't know what is the better format.
I want to use it most for make "backups" of games for my PS2 and X-Box, and of course all the other possibly features, backups of software, my HDs, movies, photos and so on...

Can anybody help me please ?

It's simple....
buy a Sony DRU 500A,this 1 does both formats.;)


The battle between formats isn't finished yet,so we don't know which 1 will stay......maybe they even coexist 'till a new format comes out.


Dvd-r is mostly used to backup games,it shows good compatibility with gameconsoles.

That's a good choice but I can buy another burner for 30% less of the price... and I really would like to know what format the PS2 and the X-box accepts...

actually 90% of everything is backed up with dvd-r.
It is the most popular choice for all backups including movies. ;)
Sony still has some problems.
But the choice is yours.

Latest firmware solved most of them,in fact,it's media compatibily is much better than Pioneer,who restrains the use of cheap 2X speed writing brands....:)

@roady...don´t start it...i know already 6 Admins/Mods with a pioneer 105 here :D :D :D

and only one with a sony :p

Yes the 2x restriction is a pain.
But to have a dvd drive made by the same people whose material u want to back up is not my idea of fun.
I wouldnt give sony the steam off my p**s! lol
But choice is good!
And liteon will blow the market apart when their dvd drive is released later in the year.

But the 1 with the Sony can use cheap media.....@2X...:p:p

The cheapest dvd-r 1x blanks I can buy are at $2.20 AU (about 70p or US$1 ) while the cheapest 2x are at $2.70. Both are DataKing and made by Princo though the 2x has the TDK header. Both work great in the A05, have not had a coaster yet.

@r00lers, I buy them at the local weekend computer markets as they are always so much cheaper than buying from a shop.
