DVD problems

I have some movies which i can play on my p.c. I'm trying to put them onto dvd first of all using TMPGEnc to convert to mpeg 1 from mpeg 4, but the program keeps giving me this messsage - File "C:\.......avi" can not open, or supported. - what do i need to do?????? PLEASE HELP?

... Not really about freeware as such, so moved to DivX Troubleshooting where those who know more about this are more likely to notice...

No w I'm confused ... MPEG4 is Divx - MPEG2 is DVD - and you can't be short of a required codec if they play?

Definitely one for the experts!
 
Diff is that a playback codec is not used as the encoding codec (COder DEcoder). Programs like TMPGENc need the right codec they can use, and must be configured to use it - often with TMPG you need to move the DirectShow filter to the top (or down from the top, depending what other codecs you have).
 
MPEG4 is not DivX, DivX is MPEG4. 3ivX, XviD and NeroDigital are also MPEG4.

As kinda already said. TMPGEnc by default uses a VFW decoder, where as for playback a directshow one is used.

I would suggest that you use something like GSpot to detect what codec the file uses and then simply install it, the full codec that is not just a dshow decoder like ffdshow.
