DVD movies playing on PC's

Why is it that I have random trouble viewing a DVD (formatted for television)
on my PC that has DVD capability and plays either +R/-R formats?
I am running AMD2200+, 512MRAM, 120G harddrive, ATI 9600 Pro, Soundblaster live. During playback, the DVD movie appears pixely throughout the movie only on my PC.
Any suggestions?

Okay, moved to a more appropriate forum.

What software are you using to play the DVD on your PC ?

Is the DVD an original or is it a copy on a DVDR? If a DVDR, how was it produced, what was its source (DVD, TV, Camcorder, etc)?

Me too!

Am getting the same problem. Backup DVDs work ok on the set-top but when on my laptop, they are unrecognized. I am using a Gateway M500 laptop which has Windows XP, Intervideo DVD and a Panasonic Matsita DVD read/CD-RW.

The backups were burned using DVD-Shrink and Nero Burner. To no avail.

Hi ricaustria, Welcome to our forum!

1. look for a free Intervideo WinDVD update;
2. check out Panasonic's/Matsita's homepage for compatible media;
And what about original DVDs, are the working properly?

tried ...

Duracell, thanks for your suggestions. I tried them but still have the same problem. The original DVD's work fine, it's the backup that won't work.

Are you backups +R or -R ? Try changing your brand of dvdr blanks, laptops dont have the worlds best readers/writers installed and generally very fussy about media they read.
