DVD drive

iwant to get a DVD-R or DVD+RW or whatever what I need to know is

schouldi take the CD-RW drive out or DVD-ROM and i have lot of good software on my pc but not the instalations cds anymore my software will still be good with the new drive?

demarc Depends on how many free ide channel you have left to use on your setup has to how many drive's you can install. If you got a good DVD-rom drive which rips well I would leave this in your setup. As to your software that all depends what your using and if the DVD burner is supportted by them.

Also depends on how fast your cd-rw is. Most likely the dvd-rw you purchase will be a cd burner also but, only 16x or 24x. Depending on the one you get. I have 4 drives on my system now. A first gen panasonic dvd-ram, plextor 16x and 40x, and a lite-on 52x. I just ordered my pioneer dvr-105 and a dvd-rom last week. When they arrive i'm going to swap out the 16x plextor because the dvd-rw can burn at 16x and the dvd-ram because I just use it to rip anyway.
