Edited reason:- DECRYPTER is now considered ILLEGAL SOFTWARE by the authorites this is why lightning uk was closed down! and put out of action ... for that reason we will not allow anyone to take advantage of using the lightning uk name and his copyrights to claim rights to decrypter software or his website design, postings or just being a file host for this software without prior notification or Acceptance/Approval/Consent by lightning uk himself!

for these reasonings we have removed links to your website and email address details!

Macrovision Forces Removal of DVD Decrypter

Last June the DVD Decrypter author was forced to quit development of its popular software. Now, Macrovision urges websites not to host the downloadable installation package of DVD Decrypter on their servers.

The DVD Decrypter is a tool used to strip the contents of copy protected DVDs. It uses the DeCSS engine to defeat the Content Scrambling System that protects DVDs.

The user-friendly interface and of DVD Decrypter as well as its simple operation and its build-in recording engine had made it very popular among users.

Last June copyright holders had forced the author of the UK programmer of DVD Decrypter to stop the development of the software.

"Ok so it has taken a while (almost 2 years), but eventually 'a certain company' has decided they don't like what I'm doing (circumventing their protection) and have come at me like a pack of wolves," the developer had said.

The 'certain company' turned out to be Macrovision, a firm that specialized in developing DRM software. The company recently acquired the intellectual property rights in all versions of DVD Decrypter from its author. As the current owner of the intellectual property rights in DVD Decrypter Macrovision Macrovision yesterday forced website Afterdawn.com to remove DVD Decrypter from its download section. It is possible that Macrovision could force any website that hosts DVD Decrypter to remove it from its servers.

IMO you shouldn't delete the above info, as Decrypter is an "illegal program" only in a few countries- on others existing legislation does allow such software being redistributed- and after all it's something about legal intricacies, not something so obviously illegal as warez.
It's simply enough up to the user complying to the legislation applying to his country, and act accordingly (= using, or not using such software). Deleting the post makes no sense for me.
Regards.

The main removal of the link was the fact that most if not all hosting/hosts of decrypter were/are sent cease and desist letters/emails and ordered to remove the program yes its still available out there but we are not going to play host to links for it here :)

The second reason was the fact that the site is a duplicate of the original decrypter website and content no doubt with no consent via lightning uk or the now owners of the domain of which is now and ad supported redirector to google! :)

Third and final reason was the use of LIGHTNING UK's nickname in an email account which obviously was NOT authorised by lightning uk  to use as a contact address for the site mentioned..which could be classed as Plagurism in this case! :(

Sadly this is correct.

As part of his settlement with Macrovision, Lightning _UK! was "forced" to assign all his rights to Dvd Decrypter to Macrovision.

Accordingly, Macrovision as the sole owner and copyright holder of the program can force its removal from any site.

The mantle of "DVD Decrypter" - unfortunately a victim of the repression of "fair use" by draconian DMCA-style legislation, is currently being carried forward by.

DVD Fab Decrypter

A free, basic decryption only utility, in a strange paradox, from China, a country with one of the most repressive regimes of them all.

I'd advise laying down a copy of the the latest version whenever updated, as you can bet China will implement their own DMCA-style legislation if and when it suits them to do so, and anyone ending up on the wrong side of it won't just have financial penalties to worry about!

But there's still AnyDvd,hosted @ Antigua island, where the big corporates and lobbyists still have no influenze .....:D

Also the free DVD43 is similar in action to AnyDVD. Its also noted that the latest AnyDVD when installing will un-install DVD43 if found on the PC. Thats one way to eliminate the opposition, I'm not quite sure who the bad boys are now anymore :)

Hi...
I have some information regarding DVD Decrypter... here is that..Considering DVD Decrypter was easy to use and didn't cripple the disc like DVD X Copy, it quickly became the premier DVD copying utility. Unlike DVD X Copy, it did not strip special features include a nag screen. The integrated burning utility has also been popular among users. Despite being discontinued, it remains in wide use.Eventually its popularity was noticed by concerned copyright holders, which hastened its demise. The developer announced on Afterdawn "a certain company" had threatened him with litigation, forcing him to discontinue the software.
