Hi.. If you have a Region 2 DVD-ROM drive, you want to rip a Region 1 DVD (or any region other than 2) and you use the excellent dvd decrypter; you may have discovered that it brings up this error message:
Device:[name of dvd-rom]
Media region code is mismatched to logical unit region!
The slower 'Brute Force' VOBDec.... will be used instead.
Well, I discovered something very unique this evening.. if you use dvd region-free.. download the shareware version here: http://www.dvdidle.com - install and launch it, go to the APPLICATIONS button, click ADD, browse to dvd decrypter's program directory on your HDD, add decrypter to the list of applications, make sure there is a tick in "Run dvd region-free automatically at players startup", you will find that if you leave it running in the system tray, when you start dvd decrypter, the above message will no longer appear and dvd decrypter will see your DVD-ROM device as a region free drive enabling you to decrypt any region DVD using the normal ripping method and not Brute Force.
Until now, I had tried Smartripper and DVDDecrypter and always got error messages when attempting to rip a Region 1 movie to my HDD. I found that I could only rip R1's with CladdvdXP...until now! I was always under the impression that dvd region-free only worked with dvd player software, not other appz.... Give it try
Top marks to dvdidle!
