DVD copying question

I have tried the latest version of Pinnacle Instant copy, however it does not recognise my ASUS DVD ROM

The other program I have is Clone DVD V2.1 (latest I think)

This managed to recognize my DVD rom and make an image file of a DVD

When I get my DVD burner I guess I will just select the image as the source and burn a duplicate DVD

My question is will Clone DVD make an EXACT copy of the DVD Movie and will the quality be the SAME
Or should I use the FREEWARE DVD Decrypter

Or is there abetter option ????

I want to 1 > back up my movie collection in case of future damage and 2 > later transfer home 8mm Movies to DVD, although I think I`d be better off with two different programs that perform these different functions better

Thanks

if the contents of a dvd-9 are small enough, it's sometimes possible to simply remove unwanted items (such as foreign audio tracks, unwanted extras, etc) and leave everything else untouched so that they are of original quality. otherwise, if the video has to be transcoded/reencoded, the quality can never be the same (although u might not notice a change in quality).

DVD Decrypter

All I can tell you is for backing up your DVD collection as I am use DVD Decrypter it is the most efficient easy program to use and then use DVD Shrink for your DVD 9's which are the ones that exceed your 4.7gig to start with.

I use DVD Decrypter for a lot of backups as it stores the image on your HD. Another way is to use anydvd and clonedvd together. Anydvd overides the copy protection and clone dvd does the rest. As mentioned in this post a DVD9 will not fit on a DVD5 (DVDR) so if the original movie files are greater than 4.4GB then you will have to re-encode. DVD2One is as good a program as any for this.

CloneDVD

You don't to to do anything outside CloneDVD (apart from using AnyDVD) as Clone DVD does a decent job of compression. you can even do movie only backups by clearing some of the tick boxes.

quality is good, but not as good as IC7/8 :D

It ALL depends

First there are two different software programs called Clone DVD, I believe you do not have the elby type because of the version number you gave. If this is correct then you do not need to use anydvd.
To answer your Question I have clonedvd 2.2 not from elby and they state to try to use there program to burn from Hardrive to dvd, if results are not good, then use the software that came with your dvd burner to go from Hardrive to dvd because some dvd burners are not fully capitable with there software.
It makes sense to use the software that came with your dvd burner to go from Hardrive to dvd because it will be fully capitable with your burner. You should get close to an exact copy using Clonedvd 2.2
I just install my Lg GSA 4080b dvd burner yesterday I love the ram dvd that came with it and Clonedvd 2.2 from www.clonedvd.net today.

There is no way a windows program not recognizing a READER drive, like your DVD-ROM- unless you have hopelessly messsed with program drivers.
So, Instant Copy SHOULD recognize your reader without any Asapi or RecorderUpdate- since Clone works the problem is most likely the CloneTray or AnyDVD TSR which you leave running all the time.
