Columbia TriStar Renews Contract to Use Macrovision's DVD Copy Protection
Friday, 26 July 2002

Macrovision Corporation (Nasdaq:MVSN) announced today that Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment, a division of Sony Pictures Entertainment, Inc., has signed a multi-year contract renewal to utilize Macrovision's DVD copy protection technology.
Columbia TriStar Home Entertainment (CTHE) has several hit titles due for home video release in the next several months including Spiderman, Stuart Little 2, Men in Black II, and XXX. By continuing to use our technology to thwart unauthorized consumer attempts to make DVD-to-VHS and DVD-to-recordable DVD copies, CTHE is making a very strong statement about protecting its intellectual property and supporting the retail channels," said Bill Krepick, President and CEO of Macrovision.

macrovision has been making most of the protections for almost all the DVDs I copy lol. They just can't win.
Am glad actually that macrovision is doing it again, 'cause it would be worse off if some other company with a totally different style of protection came on the scene.

macro what ?! lol they will never learn how are they gunna stop us hardware hacking the dvd side of the situation ?! doh ! whats next brain inplants that macro protect the films geeeeeeeze lol keep trying macro programmers ! ggeeeze the easyist way to defeat macro with a pc dvd is just get older dlls for player software or get players that you can disable macro there is plenty of them out there !! do they not no this !? doh !

Viper_1069, yes Macrovision do know all that, the main reason for it to be there is to stop (well try to anyway!) Mr & Mrs Average who exists in the millions from copying the DVD to a VHS tape or anything else. Same reason its been on VHS tapes as well. They will never stop the dedicated hacker/ripper but they are in small numbers compared to Mr & Mrs Average.

@ChickenMan i was sorta thinking out aloud in text form lol i bet you were like me before dvd came out with a video stablizer hooked between 2 vcrs to combat macro vision with video ?!? i think i still got mine somewhere !? not much use since dvd came on the scene !! :D

Viper, yep spot on. I got my Stabilizer out to hook up between my VCR and PV for capturing only to discover, my VCR has Macrovision disabled anyway.

Help me defeat Macrovision

Hello folks,
How do I defeat macrovision on a VHS VCR? I am trying to copy a vid from VHS to my Sony minidv and the copy inhibit is stopping me. I only have one VCR and am using the composite outputs. I want to burn the vid to a vcd as I can then carry it and view it on my laptop and this vid is not even in production anymore so I can't even get a copy of it never mind finding it on DVD.
Any suggestions?
thanks once again,
Samba:confused:

You need a Video Stabalizer black box connected between the VCR and Camera. It will eliminate the Macrovision problem. They can be obtained form stores like Tandy.
