Can somebody please explain the principals involved in for instance : a colour video tape transferred to DVD shows good contrast and colour on the PC monitor , but has a washed out appearance on the bigger TV screen .?? Is it something to do with the recorded amount of pixels being spread too thin on a big screen ??? jabaarli

What is your final product, a DVD, VCD, SVCD or a DivX data CD?
Where do you play back the disc, at your PC via TV Out to TV or at an standalone DVD player?

Hello DC and thanks ,
My final product is a very amateurish DVD , and I played it on a standalone DVD player . It was originally an analog VHS tape , transferred to disc by Sony burner via a USB Videobus . I'm afraid I am not up to your standard yet , I even checked the glossary to find out what you were referring to . I would'nt have a clue how to produce the other products you mentioned , yet . Cheers jabaarli

O.K. let's assume your mastered DVD is a real standard "DVD Video".
1.) What hardware and software did you use for capturing/encoding the video from VHS to DVD Video?

You say it's looking good at your monitor, while playback the DVD in your PC DVD drive and using a software DVD player like MediaPlayer, PowerdDVD or WinDVD.
2.) Am I right?
3.) Which software DVD player did you use?

And now you put the same disc into your standalone DVD player, and it's looking worst?
4.) Am I right again?

If so, i think your standalone DVD player is the problem. Because if you have produced a bad DVD Video, it would looking bad at your monitor too.
