DVD Coasters are Expensive, so please help

Hi guys,
I have a pioneer 105 DVD RW (-), and am starting to get far too many coasters for my liking.
I use nero 6 and Alcohol 120% to back up my movies, which seem to copy ok, but either dont play in my dvd player or hang. (normally towards the end of the movie ) I normally copy on the fly, but , if the 'on the fly' copy fails.
I create an image, but this doesnt always solve the prob, but does about 60% of the time.
I am using Datawrite(yellowx4) or Datasafe x4, but neither constantly copy correctly./
I was thinking of getting the new Liteon LTC4816H.(+)
I have the liteon DVD/CDR combi as my other drive, and have always found liteon to be excellent hardware, but was wondering if you had heard if this drive is as good as i expect it to be, or advise on my coaster making problem

thanks in advance guys

I have a Pioneer 105 and have just about finished a spindle of 100 datawrite yellow 4x ( I had 1 bad disc in this batch ) so we can maybe rule out a media problem.

When you say you "back up" your movies are you copying a dvd that has already been ripped ?

I take it the answer is yes........

2 points to note, don't copy on the fly, you are inviting trouble, don't use Nero it's too unstable.

If you are trying to back up an already ripped dvd, use dvd decrypter to make an image , then write it back.

Some specs on your machine would also be helpful, but I would hazard a guess that the problem is simply the way you are copying the discs.

Thanks fffclub

These are my specs

Gigabyte K7 KT400 7VAX, 2.0Ghz AMD Athlon XP, MSI Ti 4800 SE 128Mb Video Card, Corsair 512Mb XMS3200 400Mhz Cas2 v1.1 , 1x40 Gig. Maxtor Hdd (7200rpm), 1x80Gig Seagate Barracuda Hdd (7200rpm), LITE-ON COMBI 48x24 x48+16xDVD , pioneer 105 DVDR .

 You are right in the fact that the movies have already been ripped, and i do use dvd decrypter to rip retail disks, but never have for ripped disks.

I'll try thaT M8 thanx

i must say this 10 times a day here !?

USE A `DVDRW` and practice burn until you figure out any problems and get burning down to a fine art! :)

practice makes perfect :)

also it saves money too :)

iI have Never had any problems before in the last year and a half that i have had my DVD burner.

That is why i am asking the question

I am not a newbie to the dvdr scene, so any other useful advice is greatly appreciated

thanx

Just a couple of things. You ever watch Call for Help on techtv? Well the show host is Leo Laporte and I heard him say something a few times is how he recommends a clean install of windows os every few months because of how much it becomes corrupt. You have to love windows... I agree with him sometimes it's just easy then spending days trying to fix it. Face it billy's OS's sucks!!! :( Or if you did that and been nuts with everything else have you tried empty temp files and doing scandisc and defrag? Hope that helps.

Thanks for the advice PC-GUY,
I defrag at least once a week, so that shouldn't be the problem.
I will try scandisking now.
It's strange though, because i have not had a failure on the last 10-15 disks.

I'll keep you informed :p

thanx again

I have a 105 too and before I start "burning" I disconnect from
the internet, turn off all the programs I'm not using, etc. Burning
requires a stable environment and if you have other programs
interrupting all the time it might foul things up...Just a thought.

I burn in DVD-R and DVD-RW. Both come out very good quality, really no diffrence between them and original one, none I can see thru my eyes at least. And Playstation 2 plays my -R and -RW's.

I use recordnow max for movies with pioneer a06, the only coaster ive had was using nero6 to do a movie ?!?!
