DVD/CD drive not working...readprocessmemory error

I own an HP 4325 laptop, and am having problems using my DVD/CDRW drive. I recently tried to burn a large cd, with 650 megs of pictures. The CDRW would not burn the files, after trying several times. Now, my DVD/CDRW drive will not install files (for a computer game), will not play DVD's, but will play music CD's.

The error message that it give is that the readprocessmemory or writeprocessmemory could not be completed.

I believe that the original 650 megs of pictures are still stored somewhere in a buffer and need to be deleted, but do not know how to do it.

Any help is appreciated.

after shut down Windows and removing the accumulator there is nothing stored anymore in your RAM or your drive cache;

your problem seems to be a dirty or dejusted laser optic;

Cleaning the lens on a laptop drive is very easy, as the lens pops out (it's mounted on the drawer mechanism). Use a can of compressed air (you can find one at an electronics store) and spray for 8-10 sec. from a distance of 15-20 cm. Do not apply the spray for more than that (chilling may do damage), and do NOT use brushes, cotton tubs, solvents, alcohol, drive cleaner kits or anything similar.
Also, disable the IMAPI service which is embedded in the OS (control panel/administrative tools/services- rightclick on the Imapi service on the extended tab, choose oproperties and set it from "manual" or "auto" to "disabled").

Thanks for the good information. I did the cleaning thing, but am wondering if it would be possible for me to adjust the optic. If so, is there anything specific that I need to do? Is the optic always exposed, and when you say it pops out, do you mean that I actually detatch it from the tray to clean it? It is also making a definite noise, like it is searching for data but not finding it. It spins normally for about 2 or 3 seconds, and then freezes up.

Thanks,

Imapi

Well, the IMAPI changes seemed to partially work. It will now play, although it sounds scratchy and it hangs periodically.

Are there any other settings that I might be able to change?

What about adjusting it to POI only?

Thanks,

Eric

You might try to change the DMA status to PIO-only, although it's aalmost certain that this will make matters worse.
Laser tuning can be done only in the lab.

the lens is visible near the middle of the opened tray; you shouldn't touch or move/remove the optic;

and like "scarecrow himself" told, adjusting the laser/lense cannot be done by yourself;
if the PIO mode won't work, you have to bring your drive back to the shop for repairing/replacement; don't mention your cleaning tries there;
