Ok, i had a nec1100a that has worked fine for about a year. I have burned about 150 dvds and at least that many cds with it. I use winxp and have a p4 2ghz pc. About 3 weeks ago when i went to burn a dvd the pc would reboot. No error or anything just rebooted. Needless to say I cant burn anymore. It would read dvd & cdr though. Now I wanted to upgrade and thought the drive might need to be replaced so I bought the nec2500a. The exact same thing is happening. When I try to burn anything dvd or cd the pc reboots. It also will not play region encoded dvds. It does play dvds without the region coding or macrovision. The nec 2500a is on the secondary ide channel as master. I really am stuck here. Here is what I tried.
using aspi 4.71
using forceaspi to get 4.6
uninstalling/reinstalling drive
using dvd43 or other region free hacks
dvdinfo shows my drive is region 1 - which is correct, all of my dvds are region1 also
uninstalling reinstalling all of my dvd playing software
tried to flash my firmware as a last resort - no change
I have rechecked the bios setup and when i use the control panel to check the drive it states that it is region 1 and working correctly
On the same ide channel i have a cdrw drive that is a slave. it peacefully cooexisted with the dvdr nec1100a for over a year, so I don't think that is the problem. Somewhere there must be a conflict but I can't figure out where. I have changed some software but no hardware changes.
thanks for reading this long message, any suggestions are welcome.
