DVD Burner Dead?

I have a Pioneer A04/104 DVD burner and it recently started burning really slow and taking up all my resources when doing so. Some one told me it's dead/dying, please say it isn't so...

It isnt so

but the instant diagnosis would be its knackered

Simplest way to find out is slotting it to another machine and see its marks there.

Check that DMA is enabled on both IDE Channels ..... in XP this sometimes reverts to PIO mode, which could be your problem.

also try disabling other stuff like av or progs that takes up ur resources,u r using wat prog 2 burn?nero 5.5.x or 6.x?

i'm guessing the problem is with DMA/PIO as well.
