For some reason I'm unable to backup a dvd bonus disk in vcd or divx. I've had no problems backing up the first disk but when it comes to the bonus disk only 1/10th of the first chapter is backed up...what gives??

What program & version had you used to copy the DVD to HD? Try a different one, both SmartRipper 2.41 and DVDDecrytor 3.0012 are very good.
I've used EasyDivx0792, SmartRipper2.41, and DVDx1.8 and have had same result with all of them. First disk backed up bonus second disk fails.

No conversion will work until you get the DVD onto your Hard Drive, Look at the file structure of the DVD and then use either Smartriupper or DVDDecryter to select the files and copy to HD.
These programs normally look for the biggest group of VOBs and assumes its the movie, but the movie your looking for can actually be brocken up into many groups. Just rip the whole DVD to HD if in doubt.

The bonus discs are made up of (normally) abunch of different parts none of them is the main. Star Wars has a bunch of trailers and interviews. None very big but several of them the prog gets confused as to what is main and what is other. Rip the whole thing and then go thru and pick what you want
