DV to SVCD prob

DV to SVCD
I need a tutorial on how to turn my DV home movies into SVCD's
I have read every tutorial I can find on the net and I am still having problems. I dapture to DV with pinnicles studio 7, convert to a avi once I have editted it. then I re encoded to SVCD PAL in tmpe and then burn as a SVCD with Nero.
I put it in the dvd player and the 1st one I could hear the sound but the picture was stuck on the first frame. 2nd one and the picture played in staggered stages.
I have no idea what I am doing wrong.
It plays on the computer but is stilted and the sound is like u are in a hall, very echoey.(in svcdth) but is ok in windvd

Is this the first SVCD your tried to play on your DVD Player? Are you sure it can play SVCD? Just because it can play VCD's does not mean it can play SVCD's.

Try the SVCD disk you made in someone elses different brand of DVD Player, that may confirm you have a DVD Player problem.

Have a look at using DVD2SVCD as it can directly convert from an AVI to SVCD also, but use the CCE encoder, not TMPGEnc. DVD2SVCD can upset the aspect ration when encoding from AVI's, you will just have to try it and see.

Tried that

Yes I know the DVD player plays SVCD's as I put harry potter,LOTR and spiderman through it.
Tried using your tutorial and CCE comes up with an error saying it cant encode because of the size. I am capturing straigh to Dv then editing in pinnacle DV studio and outputting it as a avi file then putting it through DVD 2SVCD

?

Try DVD2SVCD directly with the DV file to SVCD and edit the SVCD with TMPGEnc or MPEG2VCR. This would eliminate Studio 7 from any actual conversion and leave the DV to AVI step out.

If I do this will I be able to edit and pretty up my home videos after I have converted it in dvd2svcd?

Or should I try another program like ulead video studio
?

Ulead V S, again another product that doesnt make compliant SVCD's (or VCD's )

MPEG2VCR, for example, will allow you to add various type of wipes, end fades, begining fade and add start and end clips or pics. Not sure on your idea of "prettying up" but it has many fancy tools available.
