I've been trying to back up big mommas house and blade II and some others. I go to Tools/VTS selectors and ONLY check the first title which is the main movie. That's all, nothing else. By the time it is done processing, I try to play it with ifoedit and it gives me the error could not open the dvd. What's wrong?

Have you ripped the entire DVD to your hard drive? If you are still having problems then maybe you'd like to try this tool: http://shh.dvdboard.de/titlesetblanker.html it is a little bit more easy to use than DS
