THe DVD/CD rom drive on my laptop does not seem to want to read CD's.

this is helpful as i'm moving out today so i thought i'll install the stuff today but no it's being a bugger.

Its a QSI SDR-081 DVD Driver

Never heard of it myself some reject drive by the sounds of it but it came with the laptop.

I would re-install the driver...if it would pic up the CD.

There's this program called virtual CD on there and i tried something earlier and it copyed a CD from it to the hard disk but otherwise the CD/DVD drive will just not load any CD.

When you go my computer its not even there as a drive FFS!!

Yes when you go system information it says it is installed and working correctly.

I'm using XP professional. Anyone help at all?

Try do the follow:

1) Disconnect the IDE cable of your DVD/CD driver.

2) Boot your laptop.

3) Shutdown your laptop.

3) Connect again the IDE cable.

4) Boot again your laptop, and see if worked.

mondaynightmike, wellcome on this great forum.
