Drive installation Question

Hello, I've just got my Optorite DD1203 (I'm very happy so far) and I'm about to install it. My question is, does it matter If I connect the drive as slave drive (Primary IDE) which would be on the same IDE as my Booting hard drive or to the secondary IDE? Will performance be different either way as far as writing speed ability?

Dell Dimensions 4400, XP Home, 1.7ghz, 256MB memory.

PS. I currently have a Sony DRU-500A with 2.1A firmware. After unistalling the sony, does the 2.1A firmware remain on my pc or will it automatically be removed.

always advisable to have your burners as master, on the secondary IDE channel if you got just 2, maybe better by its own if you got chance. And if you have an extra reading driver, for on the fly copies, place it on (the) another IDE channel (ie; slave on the first IDE). If you have more than 2 IDEs aim to put your system(s) HD and burners by themselves or at least as masters on separate IDE, and place reader and storage drives on other IDEs or as slaves. Always try that your source drive is on another IDE than your destination as they'll run smoother and faster

drive firmware is in the driver not in your putter
