Heya, I've had this problem since I got my computer about 2 and a half years ago. I can play CDs fine, but DVD discs are not recognized. (When I double click the D: drive it says, Insert a disk) I have a Dell Dimension 8100. The DVD drive is a pioneer _NEC 5800A. Originally the operating System was Windows ME, but just yesterday I upgraded to Windows XP.

I have no idea how to troubleshoot my DVD drive, nor where I can find updated drivers, if I need them.

I don't know if thats enough information for ya guys, but any help would be appreciated.

Hi Kish, Welcome to our forum! :)

upgrading (no fresh install) is always a bad idea;
but to solve your (first) problem, fitting the region settings for your DVD drive could be enough; try to check those in Device Manager > CD/DVD devices > pioneer _NEC 5800A > properties
