Downloaded movies to DVDR

Hello,

I'm new to all this, so any help would be appreciated.

How do I transfer downloaded movies of mpg and avi format to a DVDR which will work on a DVD player?

I haven't got a clue what to do or where to look for such information, so if anyone can answer thanks.
