double sided Dvd ssues

Hi Peoples,

i have recently started to back up a 2 x sided dvd of mine and am having some trouble.
(using: DVD Decrypter, dvd2svcd,CCE, dvd maestro + Nero)
Chickenmans Tute!!

I have been running everything the same as chickenman's dvd - 9 ver 2 tute except that i am changing the bitrate from 4400 to 2200 in order to fit both sides onto the one dvd, issue i am having is what are the specifics on burning them this way?

i end up with vid + Aud ts from both sides and when i try to add them it naturally tries to overwrite the first vid + aud_ts.

is there something i am missing or should i be burning as multisession??

Help please

Yep your doing it all okay except for the authoring bit. But you may need to vary the 2200 size. If both sides of the DVD are of EQUAL lenth time wise then 2200 is correct. But a movie like Ben Hur is 1hd 30min side 1 and 1hr 5min side 2, so you need to addust the disk side accordingly to have the same bit rate used in both movies when you encode. The ben Hur example would result in setting Side 1 to 2555 [ (1.5 / (1.5+1.083) )*4400 ] and side2 to 1845.

In Maestro, right click on Movies and Make a new movie. So you now have Movie1 and Movie2. In their timelines, load Side1 movie into Movie1 and the Side2 into Movie2.

Load the chapters file in for both movies.

We now need to link the End Action of the LAST chapter of Movie1 to play the First chapter of Movie2. Again click on Movies, then on the Connections tab. Set First Play to Movie1 Chap 00:00:00 then scan down till you find the last chapter of Movie1 and set the Target for the End Action to Chap 00:00:00 of Movie2. Done.

The only problem I see with this is that you cant jump to any of the Chapters in the 2nd 1/2 of the movie until the end of the first 1/2 of the movie is played. Small sacrafice really I feel.

thanx for the reply chickenman

sorry i've been so long getting back...

i have not yet tried to join in maestro, but will be forced to tonite.

with the authoring bitrate , does this only have an effect upon the quality of each half??

eg. i set side 1 & side 2 to 2200 yet the actual time of each side is diff, will this cause the longer side to have a lower quality than the shorter??

also what is theasiest way to find how long they go (h:m:s)

kind regards

Have a read on my answer above again. As in my Ben Hur example the 2 halves were not equal so setting each t a CD size of 2200 will result in different quality for each half. I'l put the formula in simpler words (all lengths are in minutes) :

CD size for Side A =

Length of side A
-------------------------------------- X 4400
Length Side A + Length Side B

When you load the VOB file into DVD2SVCD, it then shows you its length in Hr Min & Sec.

thanx for your reply CM

sorry mate i am obviously a newbie...
and have been following your tute blindly you might say.

Kind regards
and thanx heaps again

ALL HAIL CHICKENMAN!!!!

Thanx very much you Legend, bitrate calculations worked a treat, unfortunately i had to use my brain to put minutes into decimal and all cobwebs were disturbed.

very very much appreciated
