Don't get the upgrade for your DVD X Copy...###. It is really a downgrade. It removes the ripper from the original. I didn't see any warning on their site and found out the hard way. Good thing for system restore. All there upgades at present degrade the software's ability to copy most DVD movies now (CSS encrypt...etc.)

@Venom8 Info on this subject had been posted on their homepage back in Feb 2004 that there would continue to supply and promote their software but without copy protection support(DeCSS) etc.

I heard something about this also.and was asking questions here about anyone else hearing about any of this and was wondering if this was true or not.but from what i heard, it only effects the legit copy of the proggie.not that cracked ver. but I could be wrong, I havn't had any problems.

now why wasent this a surprise !? lol :)

do they have it in their disclaimer that it will do this to your orignally purchased software that it will modify it and erm break it !?

hmmmmm lots of angry dissatisfied customers :(

No its not in there disclaimer that they are doing this.there doing it on the sneak as an up-dater for the proggie.and what it is doing is. its removing the ripper from the proggie. but an easy fix for anyone who has or had this happen to them is just do a backdate restore and it will be replaced. :p

flyby2001[/QUOT you won't be able to do just the un-install of the up-date unless you go to the restore to an earlier time,as long as you remember what the date was of the up-date.it should list the up-date on the list then you can do the undo..if not have to go to add and remove program.delete the whole thing and re-insatll the proggie.or do a restore to an earlier time say like a week ago.and this should fix the problem....also turn off the auto up-dater for that program. :p

DVDXCopy Platinum 4.0.3.8 is still Avalible with the ripper If you update to DVDXCopy Platinum RF 4.0.4.15 you get the bonus of being able to use the browse button but you get no ripper or do you………………….. I have DVDXCopyPlatinum 4.0.3.8 and version 4.0.4.15 both with the ripper :D

this is a link to where you can buy DVDXcopyPlat 4.0.3.8 with the ripper still included

would you like DVDXcopyPlatinumRF 4.4.15 to have a ripper included?

I think you can still buy that crappy software (DVD X Copy) off the shelf at Best Buy and the like, and get the version with the ripper (until they sell out of those versions).

Why anyone would want to give that company money for a truly crap product is beyond me. Get DVDDecrypter (www.dvddecrypter.com). It is FREE, although I would definitely donate after you try it. Using DVDDecrypter and, if you need to shrink the movie to fit on your DVD, DVDShrink (also FREE), you can copy any movie. And, unlike X Copy, where only the main movie is copied, you can copy the menus and all the extras...the entire DVD! Also, unlike X Copy which won't make copies of your copies, you can copy your copies to your heart's content with DVDDecrypter.

Also, X Copy says to disable anti-virus, firewall, etc. when using their crapware. Using DVDDecrypter and DVDShrink and / or Nero 6, I burn perfect DVD's while running anit-virus, firewall, and other software (PhotoShop, Illustrator, NetObjects Fusion) getting work done, all while connected to the internet. Try doing that with X Copy!

Finally, donating 2, 3, 5, or $10 to the great DVDDecrypter site beats the heck out of giving $60 - $120 for X Copy that doesn't even work. I went through hell with the trial version of X Copy. Their tech support said to uninstall Nero (what?), deactivate anti-virus and firewall, and even suggested I do a Windows Re-Install (XP).

With DVDDecrypter and DVDShrink all I did was download and install the software, printed out the instructions, followed the instructions, and VOILA! - I've had 100% perfect burns with Memorex True8x burner on all media - even inexpensive CMC-MAG disks.

X Copy sucked long before they removed the encryption technology. Once you use Decrypter and Shrink you won't even think about X Copy.

Well I was taking about DVDXCopy Platinum 4.0.3.8 which you can backup the whole DVD with the extra, and you can decide what you want to keep and what you don’t. You do not need to reinstall SP or turn of the ant virus or uninstall Nero's INCD which theu also claim. I have XP Pro, Norton ant virus 8.1 corp Incd and DVDX Copy Plat 4.0.3.8 installed fine and ran. apart from the bugs that come with the software

Then I was saying that, the update for Platinum which is 4.4.15 does not come with a ripper because of the court ruling. But I know how to put the ripper back in, so you can backup your CSS protected DVD’s without having to use a third party ripper. I do agree with you 100% that 321 software is crap!!! But I had to find out for myself unlucky for me I lost £91 buying DVDXCopy Platinum 4.0.3.8. Any way my point was, that those who got coned by 321 and bought this crap software, and like me have updated it to 4.4.15 if they want to know how to put the ripper back in. I will tell you, if it’s OK with the MOD’s. :) I asked 321’s technical support how to put the ripper back in, and they said it couldn’t be done. They also said that I would have to use 4.0.3.8 along side 4.4.15 using 4.0.3.8 to rip with, then 4.4.15 to backup. That’s hard drive space I could use. Any way they lied, It can be done. There are still a lot of bugs in 4.4.15 and I also asked them if there will be any updates to fix them because they are bad bugs. They replied with "321 is no longer updating this software" Great company when they want your money, Crap Company when they have it.

If you’re interested this is the software I own and in order best to worst in my opinion.

CloneDVD V 2.0.5.3
CloneDVD V1,3,10,1
DVD Decrypter V3.2.1.0
DVD Shrink V3.17
Any DVD V 3.6.1.1
DVD Stripper V0.3.0
DVDXCopy Platinum 4.0.3.8 and 4.4.15

I have also donated to DVD dercrypter, and before DVD Stripper was free I paid for it. :D

I recommend getting InterVideo DVD Copy2 Platinum to burn the DVD movie, if you have the money. Or Nero is very good to.
