dolby 5.1 encode mpeg movie files

can any one please helpme.i am after some decent software to encode AVI or MPEG movie files with dolby 5.1 audio.i have software to convert the mpeg avi file to vob files for burning to dvd-r but at the moment the dvds i burn are only in stereo.

If the original AVI's contained Stereo audio then you end up with stereo AC3. If you force making a 5.1 ch AC3 from a stereo mp3 using BeSweet (not the latest though) then it will still only have sound in the front 2 channels. Learnt to live with stereo only if converting from a stereo avi.
