DMA on dvd rom changes to PIO

I have a pioneer dvdrw 104 on the master and my toshiba dvdrom on slave when I installed xp it set this to DMA after a couple of months it changes to PIO and you can't change it back.
This happened before and I ended up starting from scratch but I don't want to do this again.
I had the same setup on ME and had no problems.
Is there a fix for this anyone?

U run WinXP?

Uninstall the IDE driver and restart the PC. The IDE controller is reinstalled on startup and DMA is once again available in the device manager.

I've got to give this one a try tonight. I have this problem as well but on a crappy 52X CDROM. So I didn't bother until I tried to play a music CD.

Thank's for the advice.
