Help i'm new to useing Divx Codec's to make good avi's i have them all loaded including 5.3 and have been trying different settings some good some bad i have a pentium 4 2 gig 512 ddr ram win 2k when i use any one of these codecs in virtueldub after 5 minutes i get a frame drop and then later another ,i searched the forum to find if anyone has a good setting for any one of these codecs that works for them without frame drop.i am encoding directly from satelite useing svcd setting on my ati aiw 7500 the videos are quite good but frame drops.

Even average quality cables can give you problems your having. You really need the best you can buy for serious on the fly capturing. Everything must be 100%. Your HD needs to be defragged, DMA on for your HD, etc.

i have the divx 5.03 codec bundle installed is that what you mean,also i am useing gold plated rca patch cords ,the avi that was captured useing divx 5.03 had a stutter to it but very clear and the encoding before the dropped frame was good i guess i will keep on trying,is there a recommended bit rate for the avi and size like 480x480 i will be sending this file to dvd2svcd.

Yes, use SVCD size to capture but 720x480 would be better if you can. As you increase the pic size, does framedrops increase? Lower the pic size slightly and see if it solves the problem.

For an AVI going to SVCD, I would use around 1000 as minimum. Again, increase or decrease the bitrate to see if the dropped frames increases or decreases.

Well i tried a hole lot of different settings with avi and divx and all have frame drops ,i am not a newbie but i can never get a divx avi to work properly.
